Nattiq Navigation
Navagate your way through
Recent laws in many countries have required the addition of tactile bumps on the flooring of buildings, and other enhancements to make public premises more accessible to the visually impaired, as well as people with other disabilities. If we’re honest, such enhancements are often intrusive, both in terms of construction, and sometimes even to the visually impaired users they are trying to assist.
In addition, such enhancements, while they are indicators of pathways, doorways, elevators, etc., do not specifically indicate which of these they’re denoting, and do not assist with real navigation of an unfamiliar building as visual signage does for sighted consumers.
NatNav offers you an unobtrusive and cost effective solution for truly offering your visually impaired visitors equal access and independence.
Simply install the sensors in the ceiling above the entrance to an area or pathway. Program each sensor with information useful for orienting the visually impaired user to his/her surroundings: for example, “You are now entering the visitors’ center. Turn left for reception, turn right for the elevators.”
Once done, the visually impaired user can access relevant information from his or her smart phone or Braille device via a NatNav compatible app as he or she navigates your building and crosses paths with the installed sensors.
System description:
1. NatNav Sensors are placed in specific places within the building or institution where guidance would be useful for the visually impaired.
2. The natNav application is provided to the institution or building administrators for distribution to visually impaired users.
3. Visually impaired users load the application on their smart phone or Android-enabled Braille device, and when they cross paths with a sensor, the sensor sends a pre-recorded message, identifying the current location and describing its surroundings.
